Garmin 5in MFD

Garmin’s 5inch MFD TD50 is now compatible with the Seakeeper Ride app. Please make sure your Garmin is up to date with the latest software update. Garmin: GPSMAP Series with SD Card Updates & Downloads. The TD50 does not have an SD card slot built into the MFD for software updates. Software updates can be handled across a NMEA200 adapter- https://www.garmin.com/en-us/p/67781#inthebox or via another Garmin network device.

How to connect to Seakeeper Ride Software Module

The 5inch Garmin will come with a Garmin network cable adapter (RJ45 ethernet cable accessible x Garmin network) and a NMEA 2000 Tee. The NMEA Tee will be added to your existing NMEA 2000 network. When connected to your Garmin, this will produce power for your Garmin 5inch MFD and allow the display to access and display other information available on the NMEA 2000 network.

Note: Your Garmin 5inch Display should NOT be connected to any of your Seakeeper CAN Bus Tees.

• The Seakeeper Ride Software Module will need a Garmin Ethernet Adapter cord in order to communicate between to the 2 devices. ( Seakeeper Part number 20373.)

Using the Seakeeper Ride app

If your Garmin 5inch display is programmed with the latest software (2023.0725.0 or later), it will be compatible with the Seakeeper Ride app. Once the 5inch Garmin is powered on through its NMEA Tee and the Seakeeper Ride Software Module is powered (confirm via green light under the rubber flap), the Seakeeper Ride app will automatically populate as found in the ‘Vessel’ tab of the Garmin menu. If the Seakeeper Ride app does not appear automatically on your Garmin 5inch display, select the Home icon on the bottom of your Garmin 5inch display. You should see the Seakeeper Ride’s application icon. Select the Seakeeper Ride app icon and make sure there is no faults indicated by your system.

Troubleshooting Seakeeper Ride app on Garmin 5inch MFD

If the Seakeeper Ride app did not load up automatically upon turning on your Garmin 5inch display check the following:

• Click on the Home icon on the bottom middle of the screen. Locate the Seakeeper Ride icon. Choose the Seakeeper Ride app and allow to load onto your MFD screen.
• Check your software settings and confirm you have the latest update. You can check for latest updates by visiting Garmin’s website here. Garmin: GPSMAP Series with SD Card Updates & Downloads.
• Ensure the dip switch on the Seakeeper Software Module is in the correct position. See Commissioning Instructions for more details.
• Make sure there is power to your Seakeeper Software Module. (Check for flashing green light behind rubber flap.) Turn on key switch and all battery isolation switches to bring power to the Software Module.
• Ensure the ethernet cord is in proper condition and both ends terminated correctly. Replace ethernet cord if there is any issue connecting.
• After any troubleshooting steps are taken, please completely power cycle your boat.
