{"id":17518,"date":"2023-11-20T18:16:24","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T18:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/manuals.seakeeper.com\/seakeeper\/seakeeper-9-operation-manual-90223-10-s-n-9-233-4900-to-current-copy\/system-operation-2\/start-up\/"},"modified":"2025-04-10T13:34:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T13:34:59","slug":"start-up","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/manuals.seakeeper.com\/seakeeper\/seakeeper-10-operation-manual-90842\/system-operation-2\/start-up\/","title":{"rendered":"3.2  Operating Instructions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start Up Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure AC and DC power are available.<br>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turn on the boat\u2019s DC circuit breaker that supplies power to the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> and DC seawater pump.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on the boat\u2019s AC circuit breaker that supplies power to the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> flywheel motor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The DC seawater pump will operate when the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span> is turned on and cooling is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the DC control power is turned on, the Display will initialize, and the Home Screen will appear. The progress bar will appear and indicate how soon the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span> will be available for stabilization. When the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span> is initialized, and up to minimum operating speed, the Stabilize button will appear. At this point, the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span> has reached its rated operating RPM, and maximum stabilization is available. If the STABILIZE button has not been pressed(the button is grey), pressing the button will turn it blue, and stabilization will be provided. The <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is not and is not intended to be, a substitute for adequate hull stability about the pitch, roll, and yaw axes, and the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is not designed to prevent any instability due to improper boat operation, including, without limitation, any aggressive maneuvers at high speed. During aggressive maneuvers at high speed, the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> outputs a constant pitch moment, which can create a small bow-down or bow-up trim change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7ad337f95773bbdce510c07264e1856b\"><strong>Improper boat operation, including, without limitation, aggressive maneuvers at high speed, can result in the boat becoming unstable. If you intend to operate the boat in such a manner, you should lock the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> in the vertical position before operating the boat in that manner.<\/strong> Locking the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is easily accomplished by turning the boat to starboard at slow speed in the Stabilize mode. After turning to the starboard for 5 seconds, turn the Stabilize mode off while continuing to turn, and then go to the Service Page on the display and confirm the Gyro Angle is within 10 degrees of 0 degrees gimbal angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To stabilize the vessel after the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is On and the flywheel is above the minimum stabilization RPM:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press the&nbsp;<strong>Stabilize<\/strong>&nbsp;button. The speed takes approximately 4+ hours to slow down to 0 RPM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">_________________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">If it is necessary to stop <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> motion for any reason, press the&nbsp;<strong>Stabilize<\/strong>&nbsp;button. The Stabilize button will turn grey, indicating that the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is locked. Only attempt to work on the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> once the flywheel has stopped spinning. If the brake system has automatically locked the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> due to an alarm or failure, no attempt should be made to bypass the alarm or automatic lock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speed Adjustment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press the Menu button <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"40\" height=\"37\" class=\"wp-image-5330\" style=\"width: 40px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manuals.seakeeper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Menu-Button.jpg\" alt=\"\"> , then select the Settings screen <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"45\" height=\"38\" class=\"wp-image-6097\" style=\"width: 45px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manuals.seakeeper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Settings-Button-1.jpg\" alt=\"\">.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the desired RPM button to adjust the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span>\u2019s speed. The selected RPM button will turn blue. Quiet mode operates at 6,600 RPM, which allows stabilization at a reduced flywheel speed. After a 24 V power cycle to the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span>, the speed selection will remain at the previously selected RPM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Normal Shutdown Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/manuals.seakeeper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/warning-icon.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1505\" style=\"width:157px;height:100px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d342f62dfb1e980a6f0e085df83a7116\"><strong>The circuit breakers should be left on as long as possible while the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is spooling to remove heat from the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span>. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;The seawater pump may run for up to 5 minutes after the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> is switched off and is coasting (with DC Seawater Pump power applied).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> flywheel motor should be stopped when pulling into port, and stabilization is no longer required. Securing the motor maximizes life by allowing the <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> to start the coast-down cycle before cooling is shut off. Once the vessel is secured, the AC and DC breakers can be switched Off. The <span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span> will continue to spool down to 0 RPM. No cooling is required during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press the <span translate=\"no\"><span translate=\"no\">Seakeeper<\/span><\/span> <strong>On\/Off<\/strong> button. The <strong>On\/Off<\/strong> button will turn grey. The flywheel will continue to spool down to 0 RPM. Spool down can take 4+ hours from full speed.
