Mechanical Installation Manual (750-1500, 375A and 525A)

11.1 Prepare Parts and Hull

  1. Wipe the area to be bonded with acetone or denatured alcohol and plain white paper towels.
  1. Replace the tape around the border of the abraded portion of the transom where the Transom Plate will be mounted. Mask around the mounting location and the bottom of the boat. The tape will help keep the surrounding gelcoat clean of adhesive. The inside of the Cable Gland should be covered to avoid adhesive from entering the gland, particularly when installing with a Concealed Cable Entry as indicated in Section 10.1

  1. Tape the top, side, and bottom edges of the Wedge Pack Assembly. On the bottom, cover the gap between the Transom Plate and the Actuator Plate while leaving the angled portions of the Transom Plate exposed as shown below.

NOTES:

For concealed cable entry, place tape on the Cable Gland Tube so that adhesive does not enter and prevent a smooth, watertight installation.

Placing tape on the inside of the oval holes will make it easier to clean adhesive from this area and allow for smoother adjustment of the Wedge Pack angle in the future if desired.

The mounting face of the Wedge pack has been masked off during the coating process and will appear a different color from the gloss black finish of the other parts in the kit.

For Seakeeper Ride equipment supplied with PEO coatings, which show a white or gray matte color:

  1. Wipe the mounting face of the Wedge Pack down with denatured alcohol using plain white paper towels to remove oil/surface contaminants.

For Seakeeper Ride equipment supplied with Alodine conversion coating, which shows as a golden yellow gloss color:

  1. Wipe the mounting face of the Wedge Pack down with denatured alcohol using plain white paper towels to remove oil/surface contaminants.
  2. Abrade the mounting face of the Wedge Pack with a scouring pad (Scotch Brite) to a point where the coating is dull and there are scratch marks evident across the full surface.
  3. Again wipe the mounting face of the Wedge Pack with denatured alcohol using plain white paper towels to remove debris.

Please note these solvents will distort the aesthetic quality of the gloss black parts if they spill. Careful application to the mounting surface should be used.
